About Us

Alabama Fresh Produce was started in 2019 in Butler County, Alabama. As a family endeavor, our first crop was basil, tomatoes and garlic. We had one lemon tree as well although no lemons as of yet. Our focus was to bring the freshest produce to market - not harvested, but still on the vine or in the soil. The idea came from grocery store basil that is packaged in plastic boxes but is always wilted on the store shelves. Basil just does not travel well. It needs water to stay strong and basil farmers have just not invested in a way to prevent the wilting. Before our first crop, we were going to do the same thing: harvest the basil and take it to market; but this whole idea about wilted basil pushed us to above ground farming. And since we were going to do this with basil, we naturally planned to handle our other crops the same way. All of that has brought all of you Alabama's freshest produce.
